Optical Character Recognition Empowers Full Capture and Search of Text

SAN JOSE, CA – Nov. 8, 2012 ZL Technologies, Inc., the leader in archiving, records management, compliance, and eDiscovery software for the large enterprise, today expanded its range of data capture offerings for ZL’s Unified Archive® (ZL UA®)by incorporating best-in-class optical character recognition (OCR) technology. Addition of sophisticated OCR allows users to leverage ZL UA’s powerful archiving capabilities over a wider range of content embedded in formats that have traditionally been challenging to access.

The advanced OCR technology offers the gold standard for fast and reliable character recognition, imaging, and language detection across a vast number of file types and foreign characters. Advanced features also include automatic recognition of text embedded within images contained in electronic documents. The expanded OCR capabilities radically enhance the archive’s ability to search and find information in hard copy documents that have been relatively inaccessible to date. This is indispensable in highly-regulated sectors such as healthcare, finance, and government, as well as traditional industries which still need access to massive stores of paper documents.

ZL UA’s implementation of OCR offers an effortless way for end-users to tap into the value of information previously trapped in legacy paper documents. Also, advanced character recognition further empowers ZL UA’s capabilities in meeting the needs of multinational corporations, especially in the handling of foreign languages, including:

  • Automatic language detection
  • Support of 123 languages, including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean
  • Multilanguage recognition of hand-printed alphanumeric characters
  • Support of all common file types, including JPEG, TIFF, and all PDFs

In addition, since ZL UA offers Corporate eMemory™ which uses advanced data mining technologies to extract actionable insight from Big Data, the inclusion of legacy information from advanced OCR radically enhances the completeness of such intelligence.

“Corporate eMemory™ with OCR allows corporations to proactively plan for the future while drawing upon a rich legacy of documents from the past. Files with legacy or atypical formats no longer have to be perceived as monolithic or difficult to incorporate into a searchable archive of what is, essentially, unstructured Big Data,” says Kon Leong, CEO of ZL Technologies, Inc. “We are pleased to incorporate further technology to help the modern enterprise attain a living, analytical memory of all relevant information, past and present.”
