Privacy Versus IoT: Can Governance Answer Both?
Date: Tuesday, May 9
Time: 11:15 – 12:15 PM
Speakers: Kon Leong, Robert Smallwood
Description :

The IoT is a revolution in its early stages that will radically transform business, industry, and personal lives. In this new hyper-connected world, massive amounts of data will be generated from IoT devices, potentially opening a whole new world of opportunity for analytics. However, with new opportunity comes new challenges. When tracking sensors are added to everything from the food and clothes we buy, to implanted medical devices, invasions of privacy become unavoidable. Organizations now face enormous responsibilities in securing, collecting, preserving, and guarding the privacy of these new forms of data. They can choose to exercise control over this new data through information governance, or ignore it and hope for the best. This session will explore these new challenges and provide specific suggestions for RIM and e-discovery professionals in addressing them.

In this session, attendees will:
  1. Redefine the scope of RIM to accommodate IoT data
  2. Learn how eDiscovery must evolve to collect and preserve IoT data
  3. Define the roles IG professionals can play in setting policy to govern IoT data

Finding Privacy by Rediscovering RIM
Date: Tuesday, May 9
Time: 2:45 – 3:45 PM
Speakers: Kon Leong
Description :

With the growing unease over information privacy and the GDPR, enterprises are getting serious about discovering where private information is stored, controlling its use, and deleting it when required. And just to make sure that large enterprises are paying attention, the GDPR has hiked penalties up to a significant 4 percent of global sales. The irony is that privacy management requires classification of private data, access controls and privileges, audit trails, and lifecycle management. If this sounds an awful lot like RIM, you’re not far off, except that the number of documents handled is now three to four orders of magnitude larger. It may be time to reevaluate RIM as a possible solution to managing privacy, while updating the approach for extreme scaling.

In this session, attendees will:
  1. Investigate the demands that data privacy places on information governance and records management strategies
  2. Explore how reinvented Records Management fits in the information privacy arena, among risk stakeholders such as Legal and Compliance
  3. Take a step back and examine how organizations may have to rethink their views on information privacy: Under today’s new definition, “untouched” might not necessarily mean private
